Piece about Judi on NPR's Morning Edition tomorrow

I just got off the phone with Joe Shapiro from NPR who is doing a piece about Judi tomorrow [Tuesday] morning .

I'll update this if I get any more information, but I wanted to get this out immediately. As it stands now, Joe thinks it will air on Morning Edition tomorrow at 6:25 a.m and again at 8:25 a.m.

  1. Dear Marty,

On behalf of RADAR (Royal Association for Disability Rights), and our Chief Executive, Liz Sayce, I would like to offer our deepest condolences on Judi's passing.

Liz, herself a mental health survivor, has written a piece on our website thanking Judi for all her efforts and noting the influence she had here in Britain, which can be read here: http://www.radar.org.uk/radarwebsite/default.aspx?tabid=269

    yours with best wishes

  3. I just heard the piece on NPR. Thanks to Judi's efforts my battle with depression has allowed me to work with my doctors for the best solution for me. I'm so sad to learn of her passing, but so grateful for her efforts to help those with mental illness.

  6. Dear Marty and Julie. Wow, I just heard the NPR piece on Judi. I don't have the words to express how saddened I am by Judi's passing. She was such a hero and inspiration to me, and certainly was a moving force in my development as a compassionate, recovery-directed professional, as well as a guide in managing my own recovery. I grieve your loss and our loss. But I am comforted that Judi is at peace and has trabscended the pain that she lived with for so many years. Thank you Judi for your inspiration, for your leadership and for your courage. May God bless you and keep you as the apple of His eye. I offer my prayers for you, for Marty and Julie and for all of your family and friends. Godspeed. Jack Guastaferro, Buffalo, NY.

Hi Marty, my thoughts are with you at this time. Words fail me, at this time; to properly address the loss of such a champion of consumer activism, as was Judi. The LA County Client Coalition, is considering making a donation to the Haitian Earthquake Relief effort; in the memory of Judi's name. I hope that this will help to attach Judi's memory, to a humanitarian effort; to mitigade the effect that the trauma of the event has had on the survivors of this horrific event. Especially, the depression and survivor guilt; that will no doubt be a real issue, for many of those on the ground... as victims, rescuers, and aid personnel.

  9. Zed -

I think this would be a very fitting way to remember Judi. She spent a lot of time in her last few days watching the devastation in Haiti and agonizing about just the kind of things you talk about. She was especially concerned that there would be a tremendous amount of aid sent to Haiti in the first few days and perhaps weeks - which she felt was the right thing to do - but then the crisis-feeling would wane and the spotlight would go elsewhere and the needs of the Haitians, especially psychological, will remain for years. I have no idea if there is some specific place that deals with these issues, but any help you can give would be, as I said, a fitting way to remember Judi.

Thanks for your thoughtfulness about this.

    Marty
